The first ICITG, sponsored by JTC2 committee (a federation consisting of ISSMGE, IAEG and ISRM) and organized by Department of Geotechnical Engineering of Tongji University, was held in the Sino-French Center, Tongji University from September 16^th to 17^th, 2010. More than 150 delegates from universities, research institutes and companys of China, Japan, Korea, UK, Austria, USA, Netherlands and other nations and regions participated in the conference. The theme of the conference is “Information Technology in Geo-Engineering”. The collected papers will be published by IOS Press.

   Dr. David G. Toll from Durham University and Professor Zhu Hehua from Tongji University jointly took up the post of presidents of this conference and Professor Dong Qi, the vice-president of Tongji University addressed on the opening ceremony.

   During the conference, topics such as artificial intelligence and data mining, data acquisition, monitoring and standardization, geological modeling and integration of numerical model, information system and its application, new calculation technology and numerical method, numerical analysis and simulation and visualization, were discussed. Researchers from many famous universities, such as University of Cambridge, Tongji University, University of Twente, Graz University of Technology, Sungkyunkwan University, Nagaoka University of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Minho, University of Salerno, Cracow University of Technology and Faculty of Civil Engineering of Belgrade University, delivered their lectures on the conference.

   The conference has provided an opportunity for researchers, developers and engineers to communicate on the latest development of information technology in Geo-Engineerinng, as well as a forum to discuss the development trends of Geo-Engineerinng. The conference has gained the great supports from NSFC, Shanghai Urban Construction Corporation, Beijing Branch of ESRI, China Civil Engineering Society, Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering and Shanghai Civil Engineering Society. It is decided on the conference that the Second ICITG will be held in Durham University in July 2012.
